Diodes

  A diode is a two-terminal device which acts like a valve: it blocks the flow of current in the reverse direction, and allows it to flow in the forward direction.

The semiconductor diode is a two-terminal semiconductor device constructed from a pn junction. The circuit symbol showing current and voltage polarities is shown in Figure 67.
