Coffee cup challenge

Consider a special radio receiver which might be "poured" into a "cup", much like coffee. If I had such a cup, how much information could be received by it? Would the answer be infinite, or somehow related to cup? Or something else? If I were to transmit information from one of these cups to another one, is there a limit on the amount of information that may be transmitted? What would thatr limit be? How could we answer such questions? What would we gain by their solution?
