The basic steps in the design process are as follows.
Your design must be complete and fully documented as
part of the PREPARATION.
- 1.
- Complete the state diagram (HLAB3).
- 2.
- Draw tables showing all state transitions, inputs and outputs.
- 3.
- Draw a circuit diagram which implements the counter
using D flip flops as memory elements:
- (a)
- List all input, output and state codings,
all relevant next-state and output tables in terms of these codings.
- (b)
- Give all K-maps for the state transition functions and output functions.
- 4.
- Create a schematic project for the binary/gray counter:
- (a)
- Enter your circuit as a schematic diagram. Add to your project.
- (b)
- Carry out simulation testing of your design.
- (c)
- Revision of your design as needed: does it meet the specs?
- 5.
- Include all calculations, drawings, schematic printouts and simulation
waveforms in your notebooks.
