Inductors

  Inductors store their energy in a magnetic field. The flux linkage $\lambda$ of an inductor coil is related to its current i by

\begin{displaymath}\lambda = L i
\end{displaymath}

where L is the inductance. Since the voltage is given by $v =
d\lambda/dt$, we have

 \begin{displaymath}v = L \frac{di}{dt} .
\end{displaymath} (18)

  The sign convention is given in the Figure 21.

As usual, positive current enters the + terminal.
