Propagation delay

Measure the average propagation delay tPD for the 74LS00. Compare with values from the data sheets.

You should use the TTL clock signal on the digital trainer. You may find it helpful to ``sharpen up'' the clock signal by passing it through another gate first, before feeding it to the gate to be tested, Figure 61. Observe the effect of this (with the CRO). Make sure your CRO is using the $\times 10$ option. Make use of the cursor capabilities of the CRO. Make sure you measure propagation delay according to the definition used in the databooks. (Why is that definition used here?) You may use the delay feature accessed by the main/delayed button on the CRO.

Monitor VCC and watch for voltage spikes as the gates change states. Try using a capacitor to filter out the spikes.
