Advantages of SVM's

• Perceptrons:

  • simple & efficient, but poor generalisation

• Neural nets:

  • Powerful, expressive (non-linear functions)
  • Many local minima, high dim. weight space

• SVM's:

  • No local minima
  • Still efficient in spaces with high dimension
