Summary
On this page we present a few articles related to the history
of the Hebrew text of the Bible. Although our interest in the
subject arose in the context of the "Torah Codes", all of the
articles here have much wider relevance.
Articles by Menachem Cohen
As the Head of the Bible Department of Bar-Ilan University,
and the leader of the Keter Aram Tzova project, Professor Menachem
Cohen is widely recognised as one of the leading authorities
on the Bible text.
- Article on the history of the text
(HTML, English).
- A famous passage from the Talmud names a particular letter as the
middle letter of the Torah, but it is far away from the middle of the
present text. Other problematic numerical statements about the text
appear in the same place.
Professor Cohen's article on this subject, previously unpublished,
is available in English
and Hebrew. We also provide a
scan (Hebrew, PDF, 5MB)
of the article of Korman to which Professor Cohen frequently refers.
Other articles
- An anonymous scholar sent this article
(English, PDF) which refutes the solution proposed by Rabbi Zilber for the
middle letter problem. A full translation of Rabbi Zilber's article is
included.
- Prof. Jeffrey Tigay, A. M. Ellis Professor of Hebrew and Semitic
Languages and Literatures at the University of Pennsylvania, wrote
an article
about the Torah text (English, HTML) in the context of the Torah
codes.
