I am an Associate Professor in the Research School of Electrical, Energy and Materials Engineering (RSEEME), College of Engineering & Computer Science (CECS), The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.

My research area is Communications and Signal processing. I am also a Senior Member, IEEE, USA and a Senior Fellow of HEA, UK.

My current research interests include:

  • Wireless power transfer and energy harvesting
  • Wireless sensor, device to device and machine to machine networks
  • Drone (UAV) communications
  • Synchronization and channel estimation
  • Stochastic geometry
  • Distance distributions and connectivity
  • Signal processing for spherical and biomedical applications

02/2021: I am a Guest Editor for Frontiers research topic on Spatial stochastic models for 5G and beyond systems. Submission deadline: 30 June 2021.

02/2021: I am Guest Editor for IEEE OJ-COMS Special Issue on Wireless Powered Communications for Future Wireless Networks. Submission deadline: 30-03-2021.

02/2021: Mathematica code to compute distance distributions between two random points, each uniformly randomly distributed in arbitrary (concave or convex) polygons with or without holes is now posted.

05/2020: I have been recognized as AI 2000 Internet of Things (IoT) Most Influential Scholars Honorable Mention (ranked 42nd in Internet of Things (IoT) over the past 10 years (20092019)).

05/2019: I have been awarded a Special Commendation in the 2019 ACGR Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision. [Photo] 

11/2018: I gave a talk at the inaugural ANU TELfest. My slides are available here and presentation is available on YouTube.

08/2018: Former PhD student Wanchun Liu wins the 2017 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad.

05/2018: I have been awarded the ANU VC Award for Excellence in Supervision. I would like to thank all my students (past and present), academics in the Communications research group and research collaborators for their support and hard work that is recognised in this award.

05/2017: Our edited book on wireless power transfer (over 11,000+ chapter downloads to date) is now published by Springer [Downloads]

05/2017: Former PhD student Jing Guo wins the 2016 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad [CECS news]

04/2017: One PhD scholarship available [allocated already].

09/2016: Our 2013 IEEE TWC paper "Relaying protocols for wireless energy harvesting and information processing" has been awarded the 2016 IEEE ComSoc AP Outstanding Paper Award.

07/2016: Our paper "Performance Comparison of Device-to-Device Mode Selection Schemes" by D. Marshall, S. Durrani, J. Guo and N. Yang was awarded runner up prize in the IEEE Australia Council 2015 Student Paper Contest in the undergraduate student paper category.

04/2016: The ACT Chapter of the IEEE Signal Processing and Communications Societies has been awarded IEEE Signal Processing Society's Chapter Certification, in recognition of the chapter activities (valid for 4 years from 1 January 2017 through 31 December 2020).

06/2015: Mathematica code available here for our distance distributions in arbitrarily shaped polygons with arbitrary reference point paper. [Anu News]

02/2015: I am joining the Editorial Board of the IEEE Transactions on Communications as an Editor.

01/2015: I was the Chair of the ACT Chapter of the IEEE Signal Processing and Communications Societies in 2015-2016.

12/2014: Our paper "Characterization of Aggregate Interference in Arbitrarily-shaped Underlay Cognitive Networks" by J. Guo, S. Durrani and X. Zhou was selected as one of Best 50 papers at Globecom 2014.
