"Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself."
Hi. I'm Zohair, a PhD candidate at the Research School of Engineering (REng) at the Australian National University (ANU). I'm very curious and passionate about learning and experiementing new stuff. That's why I'm doing a PhD :) I am intersrsted in signal processing and communication engineering in general, with more emphesis on location estimation techniques.
05-10-2017: I am thrilled to announce that from December 2017 I will be with the University of New South Wales as a research fellow working on the Space Situational Awareness project funded by the Royal Australian Air Force. After the announcement of establishing of a national space agency, this position is a very timely opportunity for me to be part of the Australian space community. Can't wait!
03-07-2017: After a while of not updating my website, here I am updating it again. For sure the past year has had so many things going on, including the submission of two journal papers, and a conference paper. Most importantly I was on a 4-month research visit to Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain and Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden visiting my international research collaborators. Check my Research and Publications pages for details :).
30-08-2016: I have received confirmations that my funding applications for the CECS Dean's Travel Grant and for the ANU Vice-Chancellor's Travel Grant were successful. I will use these grants towards my research visits to Prof. Gonzalo Seco-Granados of The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and Prof. Henk Wymeersch of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, from December 2016 to April 2017 (combined). During these visits, I will continue the on-going research collaboration with both of them on topics related to millimetre-wave systems and localization techniques.
02-07-2016: Our paper titled "Random-Phase Beamforming for Initial Access in the Millimeter-Wave Cellular Networks" has been accepted for presentation and publication in the IEEE Global Communications Conference 2016. Please visit my Publications page to download the manuscript.
03-05-2016: I will be serving as a member of the organizing committee and judging panel of the ANU Student Research Conference 2016.
03-04-2016: Our paper titled "Random-Phase Beamforming for Initial Access in the Millimeter-Wave Cellular Networks" has been submitted to the IEEE Global Communications Conference 2016. I would like to thank the paper co-authors, Henk Wymeersch, Xiangyun Zhou, Gonzalo Seco-Granados, and Thushara Abhayapala, for their tirelss support and the fruitful discussions we had.
07-03-2016: Thushara Abhayapala, Hanchi Chen, and myself have submitted a paper to EUSIPCO 2016. The paper title is: "Three Dimensional Beamforming for 5G Networks Using Planar (2D) Antenna Arrays"
17-12-2015: I am glad to announce that our paper titled: "A Novel TOA-based Mobile Localization Technique under Mixed LOS/NLOS Conditions" has been accepted for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. On this occassion, I would like to thank the paper co-authors, Dr. Sean Zhou and Prof. Thushara Abhayapala for their support and efforts towards this achievement. The manuscript of the paper will be uploaded shortly.
07-12-2015: I will be giving a tutorial to my research group on "Introduction to Estimation Theory" on Friday 11/12/2015 at 14.30. Everyone is welcome to attend. It will be at the seminar room in the RSISE building, ANU.
16-09-2015: I am delighted to announce that this website is live now. I hope that you find it beneficial. I welcome your feedback and questions. So, get in touch with me via my contact page.
