Led a team that have delivered a
working real-time
multi-user WCDMA femtocell (NodeB) tested at Radio Frequency (2GHz)
against
independent test equipment.Validated for
all reference channels plus a large number of
RAB
configurations.
Guided systems engineering on
producing a number of
easy to understand technical whitepapers showing the system benefits
and
business case for our technology for both residential and enterprise
scenarios.This tool translated
receiver sensitivity improvement into a tangible cost saving that a
wireless
operator can understand.The
system modelling was world-first including the interference interaction
between
femtocell systems and legacy macro cell systems.System
modelling
showed that the InterfereX technology could
simultaneously: -
Reduce
the terminal transmit power by 1.6 to 3 times
Improve uplink data rates from
25-50%, and
Reduce noise rise onto macro
wireless infrastructure
by 75%
Managed the team that delivered
a working real-time
WiMAX (802.16) wireless modem at 3.5GHz. Performed outdoor mobile
trials and
showed through 2Mbps video streaming examples and the benefits of
patented
receiver algorithms within the WiMAX receiver.
Validated benefits through
controlled lab trials
with real-time mobile channels where the real-time modem achieved 50%
packet
throughput advantages at 60km/hr and 100% packet throughput advantages
at 200km/hr.

Performed systems research and
development into a
satellite UMTS receiver including real-time software/firmware
implementation.Investigated and
implemented the challenging synchronisation algorithms (acquisition and
tracking).(Customer was European
Space Agency).During this work wrote
a number of patents and papers related to acquisition techniques with
large
frequency offset under low signal-to-noise conditions.Developed floating point and fixed
point reference designs and worked closely with firmware engineers to
realise
design on hardware platform.Achieved
real-time demonstration where the platform was used
for a
number of other trials, including real-time trials over satellite links.Made contributions to 3GPP and
performed project management on various complex research and
development
project.Was a work-package leader
on a European R&D project (ASILUM) where I lead a team to develop
state-of-the-art techniques in validating the benefits of interference
cancellation in real-time WCDMA basestations.
