John Slaney: Trajectory part 6: Edinburgh

Edinburgh University offered a tenurable position in the Department of Philosophy for someone prepared to teach logic. It amazes me now that I paid my own way from Brisbane to attend the interview, but when a job seems to have your name on it, that's what you do.

So I taught logic, and so my daughter resumed growing up a Scot. For some months, we lived in Edinburgh itself, on the top floor of a tenement building in Bruntsfield, before moving out of the city to a dormitory housing estate in Penicuik, within easy walking distance of the Pentland Hills. There we settled for four years, and might have been there still but for a siren call from a familiar direction - helped in considerable measure by the climate.
