THE LOGIC NOTES

Truth value Glossary

Definition

The truth value of a statement or proposition is its truth or falsehood. We say that there are two truth values, true and false and that every statement has one of these two values. Conventionally, we use the numbers 1 and 0 for these when evaluating formulae.

Comments

Bivalence: The claim that every proposition has one of two truth values is called the principle of bivalence and it is central to the classical view of reasoning. Some other logics, including constructive and fuzzy logics, are based on other views of truth value.
