Notation

V, I, etc, are DC values.

v, i, etc, are time varying values.

vC = vc + VC is the total voltage at a point C in the circuit, where
VC is a DC component,

vc is a time varying or AC component.

Vm may indicate a magnitude.

V(s) is an s-domain quantity.

V is a phasor.
