The Australian National University is regarded as one of the top universities in the world, being consistently ranked high (16th in the world 2008). It is the highest ranked Australian university due to its high-performance in tesearch. ANU also provides quite stimulating research environments with nearby NICTA and CSIRO.

Computer Vision and Robotics (CVRO) is an active research group in College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) consisting of labs in Department of Engineering (DE) and RSISE.

I have external collaborations which can further provide opportunites for joined research works and travels:

  • A/Prof. Salah Sukkarieh, ACFR (Australian Centre for Field Robotics): Working on Visual SLAM
  • Prof. Tarek Hamel, University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, Nice, France: Working on SO(3) filtering
  • Dr Lars Petterson, NICTA, Canberra: Working on Automap Project

I can offer some PhD research topics (but you are always welcome to bring your own ideas):

  • 3D visual navigation and perception for small-scale flyer (ARC-DP project)
  • Lie-theoretic observer design for SLAM (ARC-DP project)
  • Multi-vehicle fusion for unban street mapping
  • Persistent navigation using Active-vision system

PhD Scholarships:

For Australian and Permanent residents students, you are eligible to apply for APA scholarship opportunities if you have a First-class honour. Please let me know if you are interested in PhD study in robotics area.

For International students, you should consider two things: the tuition fee and living stipend. If you think you have a stong academic background, IPRS (International Postgraduate Research Scholarship) is worth applying for. Please note that some conturies provide stipend support in which case your application to ANU has high possibility of ANU tuition fee waiver.
